LEE YUN DONG, Journey – Rose and Bag Man
LEE YUN DONG, Journey – Rose and Bag Man What might be inside the bag carried on the shoulder of that neat gentleman? Perhaps a small notebook and pen to capture fleeting inspirations, along with the weight of the journey he has traveled. What is he gazing at as he stands there? In the strange silence, one can almost hear his breath—this pause is not mere stillness, but the artist’s contemplative reflection on life. The rose in the foreground seems to carry a subdued passion, transformed into inner reflection. Yet the thorns it bears remind us of the hardships and trials he faced along his path. The tension flowing through the vivid, colorful hues between them reflects the traces of the reality he has lived. The striking blue square, frequently appearing in the artist’s work, serves as the heart of this piece, even like the heartbeat of the universe. The text collage represents fragments of memories he has lived through, and this blue mark symbolizes the essential truth reached through navigating chaos. The background text records the passage of his time. The delicate colors that seep through reveal the purity and lyricism he has maintained despite a challenging journey, and together with the rose, they express both the beauty and reality of life.

Playful forms create a pure aesthetic experience, where lines and shapes transform into interaction. Positioned between familiarity and abstraction, the work reimagines form through play and reflection, inviting perception and joy. Reflecting the surrounding world, it becomes a living sculpture, completed through the viewer’s presence.

An unshaken cradle protects and sustains life from within. A self-regulating sanctuary, untouched by the chaos of the outside world. Within it, we become free—embraced by endless vitality and quiet happiness.

The 'Rushing Wind series' show the will of the small movements in life that create the mode of existence of a person, just as a small breeze blowing into the Pacific could cause tornadoes on the Americas. The overlapping and repeated sculptural act create the texture and curve of the work, and these become a form of art, gaining its vitality
